NAON Wants You to be a Leader!

 

NAON is continuously seeking members interesting in serving in a leadership position.  There are a variety of ways to get involved with NAON's Committees and Task Forces, as a Special Interest Group Facilitator, or on the NAON Executive Board. 

The ideal leadership volunteer may:

  • Have current involvement in Orthopaedic Nursing within the past (5) years and three (3) years active involvement in NAON on a national or local level are recommended prior to nomination.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well with others.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, writing abilities, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to commit the necessary time and travel

NAON Executive Board Positions

President Elect

  • Term: Succeeds to President and Immediate Past President, total 3 years commitment.
  • Approximate weekly time commitment: 10-15 hours
  • Participates in conference calls with President and Executive Director
  • Addition travel required to attend meetings in preparation for assuming the Presidency
  • Skills as listed for President
  • Meets challenges of new skill set, demands of learning curve

President

  • Approximate weekly time commitment: 20-25 hours
  • Serves as the Association's official representative at national level meetings
  • Additional travel may be required
  • Participated in conference calls with President Elect and Executive Director
  • Prepares "President's Message" for publications
  • Evidence of leading decision-making group
  • Evidence of conflict resolution skills
  • Evidence of understanding of the budgetary process

Secretary

  • Term: 3 years, elected according to Bylaws
  • Approximate weekly time commitment: 4-6 hours
  • Records minutes of meetings of the annual business meeting/Member Forum & Executive Board
  • Meets deadlines
  • Liaison to the Bylaws & Policy Committee
  • Knowledge of parliamentary procedure and policy preparation essential

Treasurer

  • Term: 3 years, elected according to Bylaws
  • Approximate weekly time commitment: 3-8 hours
  • Oversees all financial aspects of the Association
  • Presents Financial reports to Executive Board and annual business meeting
  • Experience in financial management & budget preparation essential
  • Experience interpreting contracts recommended

Director

  • Term: 3 years, elected according to Bylaws
  • Approximate weekly time commitment: 3-8 hours
  • Serves as Executive Board liaison to committees, task forces and contractors
  • May serve as chairperson of special committees/task forces
  • Assumes responsibilities as designated by Executive Board

Immediate Past President

  • Approximate weekly time commitment: 5-8 hours
  • Serves as an adviser to the Executive Board
  • Liaison, Leadership Search Committee
  • Assumes responsibilities as designated by Executive Board
