PURPOSE
The Lectureship recognizes significant (exceptional) contributions to orthopaedic nursing. It honors (is named for) Clara A. Donahoo who founded the Orthopaedic Nurses Association and influenced countless orthopaedic nurses. The Lecture will provide an opportunity for the honoree to share either:
- Experiences related to the past, present and/or future of NAON and orthopaedic nursing or
- Clinical knowledge regarding nursing intervention and management of musculoskeletal diseases.
NOMINATION CRITERIA
- The candidate must be nominated by a NAON leader. These include past and present members of NAON’s Executive Board, past and present Trustees of the NAON Foundation and past and present members of the Orthopaedic Nursing Journal Editorial Board.
- The individual should have made a significant contribution to NAON and/or orthopaedic nursing.
- The individual should be a recognized expert on a national and/or international level because of his/her contributions to the development of orthopaedic nursing.
- Current members of the NAON Executive Board and NAON staff are not eligible for this award.
REQUIREMENTS
A letter of recommendation, from a NAON leader, listing the accomplishments/ways in which the nominee meets the above listed criteria should be sent to the NAON office at the submission address listed below by April 1, 2008.

SELECTION
All nominations will be reviewed and a selection made by a task force composed of previous Donahoo Award recipients. Since this award goes to a well known individual, this is not a blinded review. The recipient of this award has traditionally been notified at Congress that they would be receiving the award the following year. Upon notification of winning the award, a copy of the honorees curriculum vitae should be requested and the honoree should then complete the application form so that the office has all of the necessary information.
AWARD
- $1,000 to develop the one hour lecture to be presented at a general session of NAON’s Annual Congress.
- Waived Congress registration for the year the honoree presents their lecture
- Airfare up to $500.
- A commemorative plaque presented at the time the lecture is given.

This award may be won only one time.
