OPTIONS: Osteoporosis Prevention Teaching In Our Nations' Schools.

• This 20-minute program addresses issues of calcium intake and bone-building exercise during teen years as ways of building strong bones and preventing osteoporosis in later years.
• Although designed for in-school use, the program could also be shown to various kinds of groups in which there are 13-17 year olds--that is church groups, neighborhood clinics, 4-H groups, scouts.
• It is in Adobe PDF format, and is designed to be narrated by the presenter, i.e., live narration accompanying the PDF "slides".
• The OPTIONS program is copyrighted so that it may only be used for non-profit, educational purposes.

To show it, you (or the school) would need:

1. a computer (laptop or tower);
2. an LCD (projector or computer images);
3. connecting cables;
4. a screen.
5. A copy of the program; this could be taken to the school on a CD (a purchased one or one burned by you) or on the hard drive of your laptop.

The OPTIONS program has been evaluated in a nation-wide study. Preliminary data analysis from 15 schools and 720 high school students indicates that the program does modestly increase teens' knowledge about osteoporosis prevention. After the data analysis was completed, the program was revised so as to increase its impact on teen consideration of the recommended health behaviors.
