ANCC Appraisal of NAON Provider Unit
ANCC appraisers conducted an audit of the NAON Provider Unit on Dec. 4, 2009. Conversations were productive and geared toward future requirements and improvements according to ANCC guidelines. Notice of reaccreditation as a provider unit will not be known until February 2010.
Approver Unit Online Application
All Approver Unit applications will need to be submitted online as of January 31, 2010. Paper applications will no longer be accepted after that date. Updates will be made to the online application process to enhance its user friendliness by the end of January. Please remember that all applications must be submitted online a full 42 days in advance of the intended program date. This time frame allows adequate time for reviewers to complete the review process, the Administrator to grant approval or denial, and the program contact to make requested adjustments in order to obtain approval of contact hours. Dallas Regional Symposium


A successful “Effective Management of Lower Extremity Traumatic Injury Patients” was held at the Crowne Plaza – Dallas Market Center hotel on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009. One APN and two MD presenters discussed lower extremity (LE) trauma, prevention and pre-op nursing care of LE fractures, LE fracture evaluation and treatment, foot/ankle fixation, and nursing care of the LE trauma patient. There were two interactive sawbones sessions for hands-on participation of attendees. The day closed with discussion of case studies, along with a question/answer session. Activities are depicted in the photos.

NAON Practice & Research Update
The 2010/2011 NAON Evidence Based Practice & Research Committee membership roster is in the development process and will be announced in the March issue of NAON News. Four clinical practice guidelines continue to be under revision. Four additional clinical practice guidelines for development in 2010 will be named in the March issue of NAON News. The NAON Scope and Standards of Orthopaedic Nursing Practice (2002, 2nd ed.) continues to be under review. Current, revised position statements will soon be submitted to the NAON Executive Board for approval. Four new position statements for development in 2010 will be listed in the March issue of NAON News.
