Active membership is important to the life of the chapter. The ONNY of NAON chapter is looking for volunteers that are interested in positions such as President, President Elect, Treasurer and secretary. These positions offer you great opportunities to develop your leadership skills, meet new people, learn more about NAON on a national level and develop continued education programs for your colleagues and the members of various chapters of NAON. You will not be left alone if you accept to run for one of these offices and are voted in. All officers will be mentored and supported during your term for as much and for as long as you need to be. ONNY of NAON serves the 5 boroughs and northern New Jersey. So call your friends and colleagues from all the hospitals and stand alone facilities that you know. Contact your friends and colleagues and ask them to join ONNY of NAON Chapter # 069. Ask them to provide their site and or a speaker for a one hour contact hour program. Just contact me at the above numbers or email addresses and we can move forward. I look forward to hearing from you.
It is with heavy hearts as we learn about the passing of Gweneth Irish our long time friend, colleague and ONNY of NAON chapter member. Gwen has been a member of NAON and an active member of ONNY for over 30 years. Gwen was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever the need arouse to support and sustain the ONNY chapter's membership, programming, community service and leadership. As a Nurse Educator Gwen attended almost every national NAON congress and returned to her hospital to teach the state of the art ortho nursing practices and share new and upcoming ortho knowledge and guidelines. During the many leadership roles that Gwen held including chapter President, treasurer and secretary, Gwen always shared her ideas with others and helped to build a collaborative paradigm amongst the chapter members, fostering chapter growth and active member participation. Many ONNY of NAON Continuing Education programs where held in the wonderful auditorium at Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute where Gwen always arranged a warm and welcoming milieu for all ONNY chapter activities. Gwen would come early and stay late and work until all was completed. Gwen was transformational. Always learning and then teaching others. Her energy was bountiful. Her big smile, hearty laugh and cheery disposition were always welcoming to all. Gwen will be missed but she will never be forgotten.
