President Elect Candidate

Deborah Valentine, MSN, RN, CCM, ONC

It gives me great pleasure and excitement to be nominated for the position as the next President-Elect for the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses for the 2025-2026 term. I am looking forward to devoting the next three (3) years to support all historical as well as the future work that will be done to support our mission and vision of orthopaedic nursing.

For those who may not know me I have been an active NAON member since 2007. During that time, I have gathered a tremendous amount of knowledge on a national level that has enabled me to grow professionally as well as personally. In 2013 I became an active member of NAON’s Education Committee (NEC). Being a member enabled me to work with many different people on the same goals to enhance the education for NAON members. In 2014 I was asked to chair the committee in which I authored the self-assessment tool for those who want to sit for the ONC exam, evaluate upcoming poster presentations and mentor/facilitate podium presentations for NAON’s Congress. Being involved during the AAOS Annual Meeting for Allied Health and Nursing in 2017 gave me the opportunity to collaborate with surgeons, nursing, and other significant health care providers for orthopaedic education.

Building upon competencies in leadership, I was nominated to sit on NAON’s executive board as director, starting in 2018 and concluded in 2021. During that term I have been able to contribute and facilitate the NAON position statements that were supported by the board.  Having a seat on NAON’s executive board has given me the ability to strengthen my strategic thinking while maintaining the commitment, integrity, collaboration, innovation, and excellence to grow and maintain a functional board especially during an unpredictable time.

I am honored for this opportunity from the leadership search committee and want to be able to give back to the organization who has given me the foundation to grow within orthopaedics. I do believe that I can support the current strategic plan and carry the torch from the current executive board.
