Greetings from the Chapter Advisory Team Chair

If you are anything like me you are wondering what happened to 2007 let alone how is it that we are in the third week of January 2008?! We are just recovering from the holidays and the majority of us are back into our daily routines. So let me remind you of responsibilities from the NAON perspective that are fast approaching.

For the NAON members it is time to vote for candidates one for President Elect and one for Director. As Chapter President, Chapter Leader, and as Chapter members encourage each other to vote. It is so easy in a big organization such as NAON to distance ourselves from the operational issues and just sit back, pay dues, and partake of the benefits of NAON.

As a professional though I challenge you to participate, you do have a voice. NAON is your organization, working for you and to the benefit of our clients in legislation, charity, education, research, and networking.

It is also time to gather your 2007 Chapter information and prepare the annual reports. The annual reports have to be received by the NAON office by April 1, 2008. Not postmarked by April 1, 2008. You will receive information as to how to access the report templates. Information needed includes the number of paid NAON Chapter members you had for 2007, names of the Chapter Leaders, how many contact hours and meetings occurred in 2007, and of course your financial reports. The reports are to be submitted via email. To receive reimbursement from NAON you must submit the annual reports. Remember the reimbursement rate has changed and is $6.00 per member.

As you submit the 2007 report to the NAON office cc the report to your CAT representative also so they can prepare their board reports! If you need assistance preparing your report do not hesitate to contact your CAT representative or the NAON office.

Let me introduce another CAT member, Celeste Rensi, RN…
I returned to Nursing in 1990 when our children entered high school. I worked at Oakwood Hospital Medical Center- Dearborn- Michigan for the next 15 years on the 32 bed Adult Orthopaedic Unit first as staff nurse then Assistant Head Nurse. I am retired now but remain very active in NAON and our Chapter. I joined NAON in 1991 and obtained my ONC designation in 1995. During this time I’ve been Secretary, President-elect, and President many times for our Chapter and for the past 18 years served on our Annual Spring Conference Committee. On the national level I’ve served on the NAON Approver Unit Committee since 1995 and the CAT since 2006. I also enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity this year and assisted with various functions at our Church.
I am a very proud Mother of three children and Grandmother of three boys. During the summer my husband and I look forward to camping.

Have a safe 2008!

NATIONAL OFFICE UPDATE

  • Tip: With leadership changes happening in your Chapter annually, it’s recommended that you set up a free e-mail account dedicated strictly to your Chapter. Some of the more common web sites to do this on are: Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, and MSN. If your Chapter has an e-mail address like this, let me know so that your Chapter mailings and important information will be sent there – insuring that the right people are getting all the information.
  • Look for your Executive Board Nominees and their position statements on NAON’s Web site at: www.orthonurse.org. Cast your votes for leadership.
  • Remember: Chapter reimbursement rate has changed to $6 per Chapter member in 2007. Please budget accordingly and feel free to contact your CAT Representative or Jessica Daniels with any questions.
  • All annual reports are due to the National Office and your CAT representative by April 1, 2008 in order for your Chapter to be eligible for its check. There will be no exception to this deadline, so submit your reports early to avoid a time crunch later! Reports must be submitted electronically and can be downloaded from: http://www.orthonurse.org > Chapters > Chapter Resources > Annual Chapter Report Forms or requested from Jessica via e-mail at jdaniels@smithbucklin.com.
