CHAPTER ADVISORY TEAM UPDATE
Greetings Chapter Presidents, leaders, and members,
Spring is around the corner! Did you remember to turn your clocks ahead March 9th? Speaking of springing forward, the deadline for annual chapter reports is fast approaching. The deadline to submit your reports to NAON and your CAT representative is April 1st. You will also need to complete and submit the 990 EZ post card for your Chapter online.
Did you participate in the NAON Lunch and Learn in February to receive verbal and visual instruction on completing and submitting your reports? It was very helpful. If you did not and you are scrambling and struggling do not hesitate to contact your CAT representative or the NAON office at 1-800-289-6266 for assistance.
Will we see you at Congress in San Jose? Registration is now open. As a Chapter President you should have received an invitation to the Leadership Conference on Saturday, May 17th, 2008 which will focus on Chapter Leadership and activities. Congress is a great learning experience; the knowledge gained will stimulate personal and professional growth in your area of expertise and your orthopedic community. Please plan on joining us in San Jose.
Let me introduce another CAT member Brenda Gemmell, for the SE Region…..
I have been an Orthopaedic Nurse for the past 26 years. I am the Clinical Coordinator for the Joint Replacement Center at the Orthopaedic Institute for Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital. We are a busy community hospital performing more than 1000 total joints per year. Last year we built and opened a brand new, state of the art Joint Center consisting of 28 private rooms for our patients. In addition to teaching all of the pre-op teaching classes, overseeing the care for all of the patients, staffing, community seminars, I also serve on multiple quality focused teams working to achieve excellence for all the patients we serve. In the upcoming weeks, I will be leaving my position as clinical coordinator and moving to Orthopaedic Program director which will bring new opportunities and challenges.
In 2001, when co-chairing a regional Orthopaedic Nurses meeting, I learned that my NAON chapter for Richmond was inactive. I had been a member at large prior to that time. Upon learning about our inactivity in Richmond, I planned a meeting and discussed reactivating our chapter. Nine nurses attended. I am happy to report that we became and remain active. I served as president for 2 years and now have spent 2 terms as CAT rep.
Outside of work, I am the mother of 3. My son is an engineer, my oldest daughter is at JMU in the Nursing program and my youngest daughter will be headed off to college in the fall to pursue a career as a pharmacist. As I move to being an "empty nester" I spend my free time scrap-booking, sewing, reading, and taking aerobics classes.”

eCongress, a selection of 3 new courses, will be available to Congress registrants very soon!
