CHAPTER ADVISORY TEAM UPDATE

Greetings Chapter Presidents, leaders, and members,

The Chapter Advisory Team has been busy contacting you one final time to provide a report to the NAON Board before NAON Congress in Tampa. The information obtained from you assists the NAON Board in making decisions that ensures strengthening the state of the organization.

Your annual chapter reports were due to your CAT representative and the NAON office April1, 2009. If you have not submitted your reports please do so. Your report must still be submitted; the deadline is to obtain reimbursement.

I personally want to thank you for serving as a Chapter President, as a chapter leader, and as a member of your local chapter. The ability to network, enhance your skills, broaden your knowledge base, and create a sense of belonging are perks of being chapter members.

Chapter officers, thank all those members of your chapter for belonging.

Members of the chapter, please thank your officers for their service to you and the organization. The work that is done to maintain a chapter is above and beyond their busy work and home lives and can be taxing.

I wish to express my gratitude and honor in serving NAON in the role of CAT for the last 5 years. As of Congress there will be a new CAT chair to lead the chapters and chapter advisory team. I thank you for your patience as we continue to improve chapter viability.

What is a Special Interest Group (SIG)?  NAON SIGs are formalized groups that focus on identifying and fostering common special interest areas of orthopaedic nurses.  These groups meet annually at Congress to take advantage of networking opportunities by discussing issues and challenges faced by orthopaedic nurses.  NAON has 15 SIGs and each has their own listserv in order to discuss issues in an ongoing electronic manner.

Check them out at http://www.orthonurse.org/ResearchandPractice/SIGs/tabid/226/Default.aspx

Research
The NEBPRC Research Unit is currently examining AANA's "10 Steps to Position Statement Development" prior to finalizing NAON's Position Statement Development Process and a heading template for consistent quality purposes.  The group will then write reviews on NAON's current position statements for relevance and accuracy prior to making recommendations for revision/deletion to the NAON Executive Board.  Creation of new position statements will be initiated thereafter.
