To all orthopaedic nurses who have had their lives disrupted by hurricanes Harvey and Irma:
On behalf of the entire NAON Executive Board, I would like to extend our deepest condolences for all you have endured with these horrifying natural disasters. As nurses, you had to work under demanding conditions while seamlessly providing a high-level of patient care. Lack of basic necessities undoubtedly made the situation more difficult, but with skill, patience and creativity we always manage to move forward.
While the storms have passed and the weather has changed, we anticipate lots of physical, emotional, and mental rebuilding.
Nurses are resilient and flexible – to a point. In the midst of all the chaos, please remember to take care of yourself; allow yourself to take a step back to re-energize – whether reflecting on positive times, pampering yourself, or by doing something creatively different.
Please share your stories of survival and accomplishment with your friends and colleagues at NAON; we celebrate you, our NAON heroes.
Here's to happier times and healthy bones.
Angela N. Pearce, MS, RN, FNP-C, ONP-C 2017-2018 NAON President
