Our members are what make our organization so strong. That's why we'll be highlighting our superstar members and learning more about what makes them passionate about orthopaedic nursing. Meet our first NAON member highlight, Christina Ridings, MSN, RN, ONC, NE-BC!
Why are you a NAON member?
To be a part of our professional organization, which helps to support and build quality and evidence based practice in the field of orthopedic nursing.
What is your favorite NAON benefit or resource?
Educational resources and networking opportunities.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional singer or lawyer!
Why did you decide to become an orthopaedic nurse?
I was called to nursing as my profession and fell into Orthopedic nursing by luck. What I love about Orthopedic nursing is I get to help people who have either been battling a painful situation and have decided to take their health into their own hands and receive an elective procedure, or I am helping those that are injured and didn't expect this and it can be one of the most challenging days or weeks they are facing. In either of these situations I get to help them get to the other side, regaining their mobility and their way of life. It is a privilege I am thankful for each and every day.
What are your professional goals for the next five years?
Continue to grow in my own orthopedic nursing practice, maintaining a professional role that is filled with expanding and building that practice. This role may be clinical, or it may be leadership. In our professional organization I want to continue to stay involved in NAON, whether that is continuing with the CAT team or the next opportunity that is presented. I want to help advance the knowledge and love of our field for those who are practicing in orthopedic nursing.
