Learner Outcome

1.Adopt practices that improve outcomes in the postoperative care of the orthopaedic surgical shoulder patient population.

Description:

This webinar is a thorough and comprehensive look at regional anesthesia approaches for shoulder surgery.  Regional anesthesia can be used as part of the anesthetic to optimize anesthesia and analgesia during shoulder arthroplasty. There is evidence that regional anesthesia may decrease complication rates and resource utilization in shoulder arthroplasty patients. However, within the limited global scope of the epidemiology and etiologic complexity of perioperative (including block-related) peripheral nerve injury, there are important assessments and interventions for the Orthopaedic Nurse to consider.  Our presenter will review anatomy and physiology of the shoulder and conditions warranting surgery.  Through Case Studies, potential complications and related interventions will be discussed.

Education Outcome: At least 50% of participants will report that the session provided information that would cause change(s) in the clinical setting and/or professional environment.
