Target Audience: Nurses and related healthcare providers in any care setting. This session is recommended for any orthopaedic nurse preparing for the ONC Certification Exam.

1. Implement relevant and appropriate evidence-based practices in the clinical setting to improve outcomes in the orthopaedic patient with Metabolic Bone Disease.
The webinar will include a brief review of how/when normal bone forms and banks calcium supplies as well as Normal serum calcium/phosphate values and importance of that range. Participants will learn the triggers and organs of the body that try to change normal physiologic processes ("Crossing the Line") as well as the specific diseases that are traced to individual triggers/organs.
The presenter will move to a deeper dive into hypo/hyper-parathyroidism. Once the principles of this complex process are understood, the other diseases are quite intuitive. Additional education includes
- Complications of metabolic disease - orthopedic and systemic.
- Review of medical treatments to alter the disease.
- Review of surgical options for orthopedic needs.
- Review of wellness/supportive therapies.
- Nursing roles.
A Case study/patient scenario approach will help attendees apply principles to trigger critical thinking. Sample ONC type questions to review key points will also be provided.
Education Outcome: At least 50% of participants will report that the session provided information that would cause change(s) in the practice and/or professional environment

Instructions: After the webinar, the participant will complete the evaluation and post-test in the Online Education Center. Once the evaluation and post-tests are completed, the participant will be able to access the certificate.
