Similar to a game of Poker, we understand that you may be hesitant to immediately go all in to register for Congress. Timing is everything, and it's important to know when to hold them and when to fold them. So, below we're sharing some creative tips and tricks to help you save for Congress and justify your attendance...because we need a full house to win!

3-4 Months Before Congress

  • Pull cash out and store it where you won’t spend it.
  • Any Starbucks lovers out there? Challenge yourself to make your coffee at home and put $5 in a jar when you do.
  • Congress Jar for the nurse’s station.
  • Justify your attendance to leadership with the help of this justification letter template. Use it to send to your surgeons/facility to help sponsor your trip.
  • Apply for the NAON Foundation Congress scholarship for support in attending Congress.
  • Start checking out your flights right now. Our sources (the internet) say Tuesday mornings are when flights are the cheapest. Remember to check all airports, even the smaller ones, for good deals. Southwest Airlines typically has cheap flights that don’t show up on Google.

2 Months Before Congress

Take a gamble and get to know someone different by signing up to share a hotel room. NAON has put together a forum for all attendees who are interested in room sharing during the event in Reno to chat and coordinate. Access the Discussion Forum.

Please note that access to this Forum is restricted to registered attendees. Note: NAON is not responsible for conversations within this forum or room reservations.

1 Month Before Congress

Food and Drink

  • If you’re food motivated like us make sure you attend the meet and greets, they typically have food.  The Congress party also always has great food. And don't forget about the Breakfast Symposium where you can enjoy a free breakfast (It’s worth getting up for!).
  • Go for the food, stay for the networking.
  • If you’re on a tighter budget, you can always go to the grocery store and get items that you can store in your hotel fridge and warm up in the microwave.
  • Protein bars are a great go-to and easy to stick in your bag.

 Hotel & Travel Plans

  • If you haven't already, book your room under NAON's hotel block at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino for  discounted rates. The hotel block cutoff date is Friday, April 22, 2022 or whenever rooms sell out – whichever occurs first, so don't delay!
  • If flying into Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), use the Grand Sierra Hotel & Casino's (GSR) complimentary hotel shuttle to save on transportation. The GSR shuttle departs the airport every :15 and :45 past the hour (4:45 a.m. - 12:15 a.m.). The airport is only 10 minutes away from the hotel.
