Track: Podium: Clinical Practice

Session Number: S301
Date: Mon, Jun 1st, 2020
Time: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Description:

Novant Health Orthopedic Hospital is the area’s only orthopedic hospital and provides a full range of orthopedic services. Based on emerging evidence of appropriately identified patients having total joint surgery being discharged hours after surgery with great outcomes and impressive patient satisfaction, we formed an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement a protocol to transform post-op surgical care for this patient population. The interdisciplinary team included joint surgeons, nursing, physical therapy, anesthesia, pre-op wellness clinic, information technology, pharmacy, operational improvement, ancillary and leadership support. We will share our milestones from our vision to the current process highlighting the partnership between nursing and orthopedic surgeons, collaboration with all disciplines, education, Orthopedic Navigator discharge calls, and outcomes.
