Orthopedic Mission Trips- An Educational Opportunity

Track: Podium: Education

Session Number: S409
Date: Tue, Jun 2nd, 2020
Time: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

Description:

It is impressive to see the number of medical professionals (physical therapists, nurses, and aspiring surgeons), who show up to learn from our wide knowledge base and be exposed to a level of care that is not currently available in their country. Teaching these individuals about high-level orthopedic care helps them to be prepared for the post-operative surveillance and care of the patients we operate on.

Our presentation will also include case studies, complete with x-rays, to show the complexity of some of the procedures performed and the challenge of restoring these patients’ mobility. The surgeons involved and selected for these trips have vast experience in treating patients with difficult deformities and the end result is around 60 total joint procedures performed in three and a half days.
