The NAON Clinical Practice Guideline for Surgical Site Infection Prevention provides nurses with consistent, evidence-based scientific recommendations that are intended to prevent all orthopaedic surgery-related infections. This clinical practice guideline applies to the care of the orthopaedic patient during preoperative surgical site preparation, as well as during the intra-operative and post-operative phases of care. The identification of evidence-based prevention measures pertaining to orthopaedic surgical site infections will provide orthopaedic nurses with the knowledge base needed to effectively deliver high quality care for patients undergoing surgery of the musculoskeletal system.
