Practice Point: Acute Pain Management

NAON Practice Points reflect evidence-based information on complications found in various orthopaedic patient populations. Pathophysiology of the complication, risk factors, strategies to prevent the complication, assessments leading to recognition, and interventions are addressed.

The NAON Practice Points are authored by experts within NAON, beginning with a current scientific literature review. The Practice Points are also peer reviewed. Each document explores best practices and research to validate practice options aimed at the best patient outcomes.

The NAON Practice Points will inform and empower nurses to manage the acute care requirements of the orthopaedic patient effectively. The overarching goal of the Practice Points is to improve patient outcomes through the dissemination of relevant literature and proven best practices.

Ultimately, adoption of recommended practices offer the potential for an enhanced patient experience and recovery.
