President's Message: October 2022

The Week We Have Been Waiting for All Year is Here!

Hello friends and fellow orthopaedic nurses. It is time to celebrate us! While we technically only have October 30th for international Orthopaedic Nurse’s Day, a few years back NAON decided to stretch out the day into a week of celebration. What does that mean for our members? The week is filled with many fun ways to celebrate what makes us special. Take a look here for a daily schedule. There are downloadable cards, stickers, and signs. Think about changing your email signature this week with our sweet graphic!

Many of you have already hopped on and poked around on our new website. If you have not done so already, check it out today and update your profile. Be bold and upload a photo so we can get to know you.  This is a great time to renew your membership before the month runs out! If you have been thinking about joining, now is the time. Our membership discount is as good as it gets – because it is OUR day/week!

Our discussion boards are back and ready to help you connect. Many members were looking for the discussion forums and we heard you. The forums are now fully active again. If you have a question for our orthopaedic community, please post it to the forum so we can engage with each other and tap into our network!

We had a great webinar yesterday on how to celebrate your successful orthopaedic team. Please remember as a member you have access to the recorded webinar on demand shortly after it is recorded!

There are so many reasons to celebrate us and our specialty this week.  Please remember to thank your co-workers and teams. It is pretty easy to find skeleton’s this time of year and I’m always curious as to how our day fell so close to Halloween. No matter the real reason, let’s have some fun with the coincidence. Where are you seeing awesome skeletons or things that just make you think of our specialty?  Snap a photo of your favorite #orthoapproved Halloween decorations.

Last week my son and I spotted a skeleton with a lower leg amputation:

and another friend even showed me this Skeleton on a Peloton (I like to say Skellie on a Pellie):

I can’t wait to see what you find! Don’t forget to use the hashtags #orthoapproved, #OrthoNursesWeek2022, and #IAmAnOrthoNurse. Thank you for all you do and have a great week!
