Reactivation Option: A Way to Regain Your Certification
Missed the deadline to recertify? ONCB offers a reactivation option for nurses who were not able to complete the required continuing education before their credential expiration date. In order to qualify to reactivate, a nurse’s credential must have expired within the past 2 years. This one-time option allows applicants to pay the current exam fee, and provide required continuing education (15 Category A contact hours per year or part of a year, up to 30 total for ONCs; 20 Category A contact hours per year or part of a year, up to 40 total for ONP-Cs and OCNS-Cs), briefly describe a professional development plan…and regain their orthopaedic nursing certification! The reactivation application and policy are available on the ONCB website.
Volunteer with ONCB
Applications to volunteer on an ONCB committee Support orthopaedic nursing certification by volunteering with ONCB! ONCB is looking for volunteers to fill roles on the Recertification Committee, the Exam Prep Committee, and the Test Committee. Applicants must be ONC®, ONP-C®, OCNS-C®, or ONC-A™ certified to be eligible for volunteer roles. Learn more about ONCB volunteer opportunities and apply on the ONCB website.
Retest for Success: The Program for ONCB Exam Candidates
Through ONCB’s Retest for Success program, nurses can benefit from the opportunity to decrease stress as they pursue valued orthopaedic nursing certification. Hospitals and other healthcare employers can participate by completing a no-cost 1-year contract. Each facility pledges a minimum of three candidates to test within a year. Any RN or NP who fails on the first attempt will receive a free second exam at no cost. In addition, all candidates receive a free online practice exam to jumpstart their prep.
Check out the contract on the ONCB website and contact ONCB with any questions at oncb@oncb.org.
What Nurses Need to Know About Metadata, Documentation and Legal Liability
Metadata analysis of information in a patient’s electronic health record (EHR) has the potential to provide valuable information to attorneys in the case of a lawsuit. This information, such as patterns of missing data, can bolster a legal case, leaving nurses vulnerable to punitive action. The best way to avoid negative results of a metadata analysis and subsequent legal action is effective documentation.
