Healthy Tips from ANA's Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ Blog

Tis the season

As many of you across the nation are experiencing the weather changes, you are likely seeing the increase of respiratory illness too. Popescu (2023) in Infection Control Today noted in September the possibility of the winter triple threat of COVID 19, influenza and RSV. As we work hard to keep our patients safe, healthcare providers on the frontlines need to protect ourselves too. Respiratory virus has patients experiencing fever, sore throat and cough. Here are a few things noted to curb the spread:

  1. Stay home when sick- from work, gatherings, parties (RSV is highly transmissible)
  2. Mask if needing to go out- grocery store, etc.
  3. Hand hygiene for your self and other near affected person
  4. Cleaning and disinfecting- phones and keyboards at work, doors and handles
  5. Remain 6ft from affected persons or in a well-ventilated area

It is hard to miss events during the holiday, but taking care of your self and family can be the best present of all!

Happy Holidays!
