Healthy Tips from ANA’s Healthy Nurse, Healthy NationTM Blog

Submitted by Laura Hixon, DNP, MSNE, RN-BC, ONC

Our nursing workforce is one of the largest in the healthcare profession and they practice in different types of environments and with urban, rural and vulnerable populations. It may not surprise you that the older adult population, for example, will be 21% of our population by 2030! As nurses adapt to the continuous changes in the field, it is interesting to think about some of the primary concerns over the next five years.

Here are a few considerations noted:

  1. Need nurses available for a variety health care needs
  2. Need the education of clinical nurse specialties
  3. Need a diverse workforce, prepared with knowledge and skill
  4. Need more experts in mental and behavioral crisis care givers

Our contributions to the ongoing research and care of our patients will improve access to interventions and services while addressing some of these concerns. The situations require nurses to be lifelong learners and grow in their knowledge to keep up with the current trends. This is great for our community and our own professional growth and confidence.

Have a wonderful summer and always keep learning!
