Benefits of Green Exercise

“Wellness training can include yoga and other holistic practices that are designed to offer tools that can help you to consistently focus on your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and environmental health.” — Frances Akubuilo, DNP, RN from ANA Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation- Year 3 Highlights

You have heard of all of the benefits of exercise including health promotion and disease prevention, but how about the benefits of taking it outside?

  1. Outdoor or “green” exercise combines exercise and natural environments
  2. Exposure to nature during “green exercise” has positive effects on physical and mental health, perceived calmness, reduces stress, anxiety, improves mood, self-esteem, concentration
  3. Many types to choose from- outdoor yoga, walking, gardening, bicycling, recreational sports
  4. Let’s get outside, take a deep breath, and Move More Now!

One of my favorite things to do is take a walk, take deep breaths, look for the birds and squirrels, butterflies and other people walking. Always makes me appreciate the beauty we can find in our world when we are looking!

Happy Spring!
